Asquith Primary School

Growing to Succeed

Our Governing Body

In accordance with the Government’s requirements the Governing Board has three core functions for our school, as set out in the 2014 Department for Education’s Handbook:

  • Setting targets and promoting high standards of educational achievement.
  • Setting the strategic framework within which the school operates.
  • Management of the school’s delegated budget.

Governor Mission Statement 2020/21

The Governing Body of Asquith Primary School aims to support the ethos of the school in providing a safe environment where achievement is high and every child is able to develop and thrive within a supportive atmosphere.

We will achieve this through both an active involvement in the daily life of the school, where appropriate, and by working closely with the school’s senior leadership team:

  • To set the strategic direction and appropriately challenging aims and objectives and support school leaders in achieving them through the establishment of the school Development Plan and careful monitoring of its implementation.
  • To agree policies, priorities and performance targets in order to achieve these objectives.
  • To receive evidence that these objectives are being achieved and challenge leaders where appropriate.
  • To ensure that the school sets and works within a sensible financial plan.
  • To ensure that all relevant statutory requirements are met.

The Governing Body will always act in the best interests of the school and its pupils. We will be prepared to explain clearly our decisions in an open and transparent way to staff, parents, pupils and others in the wider community and listen to their views.

We will be united in a common vision for the school shared by the Head Teacher in promoting the highest possible academic standards.

The Governors will act as a corporate body with integrity, objectivity and honesty in the best interests of the school and its pupils.

I have been a Local Authority Governor at Asquith since 2008, and was appointed Chair of Governors in September 2009. I sit on all the committees and am also the governor responsible for Numeracy. I have 2 children, who both attended Asquith Primary but who have now moved onto High School and 6th Form College.

I worked in banking for 13 years before leaving to start a family, and now work part time for my husband in his Financial Planning business. I also work twice a week with a child with autism, who is following a home school programme.

October 2021 - Supporting the Education of Children Looked After (CLA)

I joined the Asquith Governors in 2018.

My son and daughter study in Asquith and I believe that a strong foundation in primary school will prepare our kids for a better future. Primary school is one of the most formative years in a kid’s life and I would like to support the school in making it better.
I lived in Morley for a decade and played active role in PSA for last few years. I believe an active parent teacher community will support the school for attaining positive results.
I am proud to support the school, teachers and fellow governors to make our community better.

I am a digital technology transformation expert. I held roles at both start-up and fortune/FTSE listed companies across a range of sectors including health, retail, logistics, and airlines. I am part of the founding team of Itechohealth a digital health platform, and previously has led the creation of digital platforms for Hermes, Asda Walmart, Howdens Joinery, QVC Air Canada. I hold a Bachelors degree in Computer engineering from V.J.T.I. Mumbai University and a Global Executive MBA from INSEAD. A seasoned executive and board member with extensive software engineering, business change, IT management and operations experience with a proven pedigree of delivery and leadership. I am VP of IT for INSEADs UK’s alumni association.

In my spare time I like to read and cook.

I was first elected as Leeds City councillor for Morley North ward in 1979. During the late 1980s I became involved in all Morley primary schools. I have been a governor at the then Morley High School and I was chairman of governors at Drighlington Primary School. I was a Morley councillor for two periods in total 22 years and was involved with the local consultation over plans to build Asquith Primary School. It has been a pleasure to be involved in the appointment of and to work Gillian Austerfield as a governor at Asquith since its construction.

November 2021 - Early Reading and Phonics for Governors

My name is Nigel Bradley, I grew up in the 1960's and early 1970's in what was then a council housing (only) estate and lived on Horsfall Street well before Asquith Primary School was built.

My own experiences tell me that a good education can expand the mind and open doors of opportunity, whatever a child's background.

I am a School Governor at Asquith Primary because I want to play my part to make sure that every child at Asquith Primary receives the knowledge, skills and positive experiences that they are entitled to, so that they may then progress through their teenage years happy, safe and thrilled by their own abilities to learn new things.

I have 2 children who attend Asquith Primary School. I have worked for local government for over 20 years, and worked for the last 3 years in Education, as a HR Business Partner/ Manager; providing advice on employment matters & policies. I hope that my experience and knowledge is seen as an asset to the school.

I have a strong interest in Education and have seen the difference that attending a good and caring school can make to young people’s lives.
